ReWild Sacramento joined up with Friends of Sutter's Landingon November 15th to plant native plants and native seeds at Sutter's Landing. Thanks to the City of Sacramento for the grant. Volunteers removed invasive weeds and trash and laid down mulch to keep weeds from growing back. The tiny plants are tasty to rabbits so we also made wire cages to keep the plants from becoming a meal for a hungry lepus californicus or black-tailed jackrabbit family. We planted coyote bush, toyon, penstemon, and others. Can't wait to see them all grown up!
Sac High students and teachers, Missing Trees and ReWild teamed up to plant 12 trees along Y Street. Another great event thanks to free trees from SMUD and the Sacramento Tree Foundation. And thank you Principal Williams-James for the great organization and snacks!
In spite of cloudy skies about 20 volunteers stepped up to weed and mulch and pick up trash at Sutter's Landing to prepare for planting native California plants along the American River on November 15. In September we received a small grant from the City of Sacramento and this is our first activity. We were able to buy some tools to help us out.
We took Amtrak to Davis and then biked over to the Davis Arboretum along Putah Creek. Arborist Alex Binck lead a casual stroll through to explore the trees and plants from all around the world that thrive in the central valley's Mediterranean climate. As a bonus, we learned about the Davis "Egghead" art installation and toured the Manetti Shrem museum.
Sacramento Vice-Mayor Karina Talamantes lead a parkway cleanup early in August. ReWild partnered with Trees 4 Sacramento to chat with participants about tree planting and advocacy. We picked up a bit of trash as well. More pictures on Karina Talamantes' Facebook page.
A lively group of volunteers met to take care of trees we planted back in December 2024 . Planting the trees is only part of the fun, making sure they grow up big and strong with regular maintenance is the other part. We weeded, mulched, watered, and replaced a few broken support poles.
About Henry. At one point we saw a loose golden and started trying to catch him. It was not Henry. Just another golden boy living his best life on a walk with his owner.
A few of us joined with Friends of Sutter's Landing to mulch, pull weeds, and trim plantings. That pesky star thistle was no match for our weeding skills. Lots more to do so if you see star thistle while out and about, feel free to rip it out. Just make sure it's actually star thistle.

Alex Binck, local arborist, lead this walk to explore notable trees in Land Park. Walkers, including chill dog Nutmeg, learned about the native and non-native trees that keep William Land Park shady and cool. We viewed Spanish cork oak trees planted during World War II to protect the cork industry. We learned that coastal redwoods grow well in the Sacramento area in spite of the lack of morning fog. Preservation Sacramento helped plan and organize this great tree walk!

The rain held off on our Fruit Tree Care Workshop until we were done installing new irrigation lines. Huge thanks to everyone who came out to New Roots Farm to help us care for some fruit trees and build a greener, cooler Sacramento .We were blown away by the energy, curiosity, and kindness of our volunteers. This is how we grow community—and trees! ReWild Sacramento is going to be organizing more tree care events soon, and we’re so grateful to be doing it with all of you.
Giving back to the Earth 🌎 and the community! ReWild is grateful to have joined forces with @newrootssacramento to care for trees on a farm run by the International Rescue Committee, founded by Albert Einstein 🥼⚛️
These trees will one day be the shade for outdoor events on the farm like BBQs and birthday parties - we’re also going back soon to help do the same thing for some Fruit Trees!
Through irrigation and mulching these trees, we’re helping nature thrive and supporting sustainable growth for generations to come 🌳💚
Planting trees is great but those little babies need some care in their early years to grow up to be big, strong, shade monsters. Arborist Alex Binck demonstrated tree pruning basics at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in River Park. Everyone got a chance to find the strongest leader branch and prune away the weaker branches. We also gave the tree roots a good mulching to hold water and protect the trunks from weeds and weed whackers.
Walk or bike by the location where Fair Oaks splits into H and J streets.
Thanks Scottish Rite Masonic Center for planting the trees and for providing mulch, partnership, and tools.
Yet another wildly successful event.
We planted 15 trees around the park with support from neighborhood volunteers, the City of Sacramento, the City Youth, Parks, and Community Enrichment (YPCE), Strong Sactown, and California Releaf. The trees were generously donated by SMUD and the Sacramento Tree Foundation.
Councilmember Mai Vang provided snacks with water, coffee, pastries, fruit. Director of Communications Alexxiss Diaz helped to plant trees with us.
The City provided fabulous logistical support. City parks staff augured the holes, and distributed the trees, tools, and mulch. They also tidied up the park beforehand - great job!

Art Guerrero's family members attended to plant a tree and to remind us of Art's significant contributions to the neighborhood through his work, teaching, faith, and community activism.
As usual, the City provided all the logistical support for us. When the volunteers arrived, holes were augured, trees and tools placed, and mulch placed.
We planted 9 trees around the park with volunteers from the City of Sacramento, the City Youth, Parks, and Community Enrichment (YPCE), Strong Sactown, and the Marshall-New Era Neighborhood Association. The trees were generously donated by SMUD and the Sacramento Tree Foundation.
